Parguito

Parguito is one of Venezuela’s best-known surf spots, located on Playa Parguito on the northeastern coast of Isla Margarita in the state of Nueva Esparta.

Surf character

• Beach break with consistent sand-bottom waves
• Often produces fast, punchy, hollow sections
• Works best with N to E swells and can handle a variety of swell directions due to its exposed coastline
• Can range from fun and manageable to powerful and heavy, depending on conditions

Wave quality

• When it’s on, Parguito can deliver very good, rippable waves with occasional barrels
• Breaks in multiple peaks along the beach, so it can spread out crowds a bit
• Best suited for surfers who are comfortable in quick, energetic beach break surf

Conditions

• Best wind: typically offshore or light cross-offshore winds, which are common at certain times of day or year
• Tide can make a noticeable difference:
• Mid tide often gives the best shape
• Too much water can soften it
• Too little can make it steep and sectiony

• Popular with local surfers and travelers
• Can get busy when conditions are good
• Generally has a laid-back beach town atmosphere, with surf schools, rentals, and beachside places nearby
