Spanish River is a popular South Florida surf break located near Boca Raton along the Atlantic coast. It’s one of the more reliable surf spots in the region when conditions line up, especially during tropical systems, north swells, or strong cold fronts.

What it’s like

Type of break: Primarily a beach break with shifting sandbars
Wave quality: Can be fun and punchy when sandbars are well-formed, but often inconsistent
Best swell direction: East to northeast swells
Best wind: West to northwest winds are typically offshore or cleaner
Bottom: Sandy, with bars that change frequently after storms

Conditions

Spanish River works best when there’s enough swell to push through the sandbars. Like most South Florida spots, it needs the right combination of swell, wind, and tide to really come alive. After hurricanes or winter fronts, the waves can improve significantly.
