Hoko river Kydaka

Hoko River / Kydaka, Washington (Northwest USA) is a remote, rugged surf area on the far northwestern coast of the Olympic Peninsula, near the mouth of the Hoko River and Kydaka Point.

Spot description

• Setting: Wild, isolated coastline with dramatic cliffs, cobble beaches, driftwood, and a very natural, undeveloped feel.
• Wave character: Open-ocean swell hits the coast directly, so the surf can be powerful and raw. Depending on sand movement and conditions, it may break over reef, rocks, or mixed beachbreak/point-style sections.
• Water conditions: Typically cold Pacific Northwest water, so a thick wetsuit is usually necessary year-round.
• Best for: Experienced surfers who are comfortable with remote access, colder water, and potentially hazardous conditions.
• Crowd factor: Usually very uncrowded due to its isolation and access challenges.
• Hazards: Rocks, strong currents, sneaker waves, driftwood, cold water, and limited services nearby.
