Two Lights is a classic New England surf spot in Cape Elizabeth, Maine, just south of Portland. It’s a rocky-point, exposed Atlantic break known for its powerful winter swells, cold water, and scenic lighthouse backdrop.

Type: Exposed coastline / point and reefy structure
Best swell: N to E / NE groundswell
Wind: Best with W / NW offshore winds
Wave quality: Can be very good when the swell lines up, with punchy, fast waves and occasional longer rides
Water temperature: Very cold year-round; thick winter wetsuit required most of the season

Conditions

Works best on larger swells due to the exposure and rocky setup
Can be powerful and shallow, especially at lower tide
Tides matter a lot: some sections may improve on mid to higher tide, while lower tide can get hollow and unforgiving
Not usually a beginner spot because of the rocks, cold, and strong winter conditions

Best season

Fall through early spring is the prime season, especially when Northeast storms send in clean swell
