Ventnor Pier

Ventnor Pier is a classic North East New Jersey beachbreak surf spot located in Ventnor City, just south of Atlantic City. It’s a pier/jetty-influenced sandbar break that can produce fun waves, especially when Atlantic storm systems line up with a clean offshore wind.

What it’s like

• Wave type: Mostly beachbreak with some structure from the pier and nearby groins/jetty influence.
• Best conditions: Works best with S to E swell and light offshore NW winds.
• Seasonality: Surf can be decent year-round, but fall and winter often bring the most consistent and powerful swells.
• Crowd factor: Can get crowded when it’s good, especially in summer and on clean swell days.

Wave quality

• Can offer fast, punchy peaks and occasional longer runners when the sandbars line up.
• Wave shape changes often because the sand shifts frequently, so it can vary from soft and mushy to sharp and hollow.
• Not usually a super-consistent “all-day” wave, but it can be surprisingly good after storms or during strong nor’easters.

Suitability

• Beginner-friendly only on smaller, softer days.
• On bigger swells, it can become strong and dumpy, better suited for intermediate to advanced surfers.
• Bodyboarders and longboarders may enjoy it when the waves are smaller and cleaner.

Hazards and notes

• Be aware of strong currents, shifting sandbars, and occasional shorebreak.
• As with many Jersey beachbreaks, conditions can change quickly with tide and sand movement.
• Since it’s in a developed beach town, access is generally straightforward, but parking and beach rules may vary by season.
