Pierson’s is a lesser-known surf spot on Oʻahu’s North Shore, located in Hawaii, USA. It’s generally associated with powerful, shallow reef breaks that can produce fast, hollow waves when the swell lines up. Like many North Shore reefs, it works best in the winter when North Pacific swells wrap in from the northwest to north, and it typically favors offshore trade winds from the south or southeast.
A few general characteristics:
- Wave type: Reef break
- Best swell direction: NW–N
- Best wind: ESE–SE trades or light offshore conditions
- Skill level: Usually for experienced surfers, due to power, reef exposure, and shifting conditions
- Bottom: Coral reef, so wave knowledge and caution are important
- Crowd: Often less famous than major North Shore breaks, but still can have local surfers and a tight lineup
Because reef spots on Oʻahu can change a lot with tides, swell angle, and season, Pierson’s is best approached by checking current conditions, talking to locals, and respecting lineup etiquette.
