Makapuu

Mākapuʻu (Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi) is a scenic east-side surf spot known for its powerful, consistent reef break and dramatic setting beneath the cliffs of the Makapuʻu Point area. It’s one of Oʻahu’s more exposed ocean locations, so it picks up a lot of swell, especially from the south and southeast, and it can also respond to winter northwest energy depending on conditions.

Conditions

Mākapuʻu can offer fun, rideable surf on the right day, but it’s not a mellow beginner spot. The reef and local ocean dynamics can create strong currents and heavier waves, so surfers should be comfortable in punchy conditions and aware of the takeoff zone.
