Barber's Point - Coast Guard Jetty

Barber’s Point – Coast Guard Jetty is a reef break on the leeward side of Oʻahu, Hawaii, near Kalaeloa/Barber’s Point. It’s a coastal jetty spot that can produce fun, fast waves when conditions line up, especially with west to southwest swells and lighter local winds.

What it’s like

• Wave type: Mostly a reef/jetty break
• Best swell direction: W to SW
• Best wind: Offshore or light trade winds
• Wave quality: Can be fun and punchy, but usually less consistent than the better-known North Shore spots
• Crowd: Typically less crowded than major Oʻahu surf breaks

Conditions

• Works best when the surf is small to medium
• Can become shallow and tricky at lower tide
• The jetty and reef can create steep takeoffs and quick sections

Hazards

• Reef is the main hazard, especially at low tide
• Strong currents may be present near the jetty
• The area can have local flow and water movement that makes paddling out harder

Good for

• Intermediate to advanced surfers looking for a less crowded session
• Surfers comfortable with reef breaks and changing conditions

Not ideal for

• Beginners
• Longboarders when the waves are steep or fast
