Little Beach (Maui, Hawaii) is a scenic, small, sheltered beach just south of Makena State Park on Maui’s south shore. It’s best known more for its laid-back, clothing-optional vibe and beautiful setting than for heavy, consistent surf.
Surf / wave character
- Wave type: Usually a mellow beachbreak with occasional stronger sets.
- Best conditions: Can work on south swells in summer.
- Skill level: More suitable for intermediate surfers when it’s breaking; not typically a big-wave or high-performance spot.
- Crowds: Can be crowded when conditions are good, but surf is often secondary to the beach scene.
- Hazards: Shorebreak, rocks near the edges, currents, and changing sandbars.
Spot feel
- Scenic: Golden sand, lava rock edges, and a view toward Molokini and the open Pacific.
- Atmosphere: Relaxed, bohemian, and social.
- Access: Walk-in from nearby Makena area; parking can be limited and sometimes requires a short hike.
Good to know
- Little Beach is more famous as a beach destination than a surf destination.
- If you’re mainly looking for surfing on Maui’s south shore, nearby Maluaka, Makena Landing, or Big Beach may offer more reliable surf options depending on swell and wind.
