Kona Tiki

Kona Tiki is a small, fairly exposed reef break on the Big Island of Hawaii near Kailua-Kona. It’s known for producing fun, rippable waves when conditions line up, especially during south and southwest swells. Because it breaks over shallow reef, the wave can offer good shape and speed, but it also demands respect and solid local knowledge.

What to expect

Kona Tiki can offer a fast, clean right and left reef setup, with sections that allow carving and some smaller barrels on better swells. It’s generally not a beginner-friendly wave due to the reef and the need for proper positioning.

As with many Hawaiian reef breaks, reef etiquette and respect for locals are important. Conditions can change quickly, and entry/exit can be tricky, so check it carefully before paddling out.
