Terry's Cove

Terry’s Cove is a sheltered bay-side surf and paddle spot in Alabama’s Gulf Coast area, near Orange Beach and Perdido Pass. It’s not a classic open-ocean surf destination, but it can pick up small wind-driven waves and boat wake, making it more of a fun, mellow break than a consistent high-performance surf spot.

What it’s like

• Wave type: Generally small, soft, and short-period waves
• Best for: Longboarding, beginner surfing, SUP, and wake-influenced sessions
• Consistency: Limited—depends heavily on local wind, boat traffic, and passing tropical systems
• Conditions: Usually calmer than the beachfront because it’s inside the cove/protected water

Surf character

Terry’s Cove is better known for its flatwater, boating, and paddle recreation than for dependable surf. When Gulf conditions line up, especially during storms or strong onshore winds, it may produce rideable wind swell or wrap into the cove. Most sessions will be small and friendly rather than powerful.

• Often crowded more by boaters and paddlers than surfers

• Late summer into fall for the best chance of Gulf swell from tropical activity
