County Line is a classic surf break on the Ventura/L.A. County line in Southern California, just off Pacific Coast Highway near the edge of Leo Carrillo State Park.

Overview

• Type: Exposed beach break / point-reef hybrid
• Vibe: Scenic, accessible, and often crowded with a mix of longboarders, shortboarders, and beginners depending on conditions
• Best for: Intermediate surfers and experienced beginners on smaller days; more advanced surfers when it gets bigger and hollower

Wave Character

• County Line can offer fast, fun right and left waves with sections that vary by sand movement and swell direction.
• It tends to work best with a solid west to northwest swell and clean offshore winds.
• On better days, it can produce longer rides with peeling walls, but it can also become closeout-y if the swell gets too large or the sand shifts.

Conditions & Swell

• Best swell direction: West / Northwest
• Best wind: Light offshore from the east or northeast
• Best tide: Often mid tide, though this can vary with sandbars and swell size
• Hazards: Shallow sections, shifting sandbars, strong currents, and occasional crowding

Environment

• Set against the Santa Monica Mountains with views of the coastline, County Line is one of the more beautiful and easy-to-access surf spots in the area.
• The spot can be exposed to wind and swell, so conditions change quickly.
