Purisima Point Peak

Purisima Point Peak is a surf break on the Santa Barbara County coast in California, near Point Purisima in the Lompoc area. It’s part of the more remote Central Coast surf zone, so it tends to be less crowded and more exposed to open-ocean conditions than many Santa Barbara spots.

General character

• Type of break: Primarily a reef/point-style wave zone, with conditions influenced by the local headlands and seafloor contour.
• Wave quality: Can produce longer, more organized right-hand waves when swell, tide, and wind line up.
• Crowd factor: Usually light to moderate, partly because access is less convenient and conditions need to be right.

• Swell direction: Typically works best on westerly to northwest swell.
• Wind: Offshore or light winds are preferred; strong onshore wind can quickly make it messy.
• Tide: Often better at mid to lower tides, though the ideal tide depends on the exact reef/point setup and swell size.

Skill level

• Generally intermediate to advanced depending on surf size and shape.
• When it’s bigger, the spot can get powerful and sectiony, so it may not be ideal for beginners.

Hazards

• Reef/rocks and a potentially shallow takeoff zone
• Strong currents and variable wave shape
• Exposure to larger Pacific swell and sudden changes in conditions

Vibe

• More of a scenic, rugged, and less developed surf setting than a classic beachbreak scene.
• Best for surfers who like open-coast waves and don’t mind a bit of scouting or walking to find the best lineups.
