Campus Point

Campus Point is a classic Santa Barbara surf break located just west of UCSB, inside the Goleta/Santa Barbara coast. It’s a scenic, somewhat sheltered point/reef setup that often produces long, rideable waves when the conditions line up.

What it’s like

• Wave type: Mostly a reef/point-style break with peelers that can offer fun, workable walls.
• Best swell: Usually works best on south to southwest swells.
• Wind: Tends to like offshore or light winds; strong westerlies can make it messy.
• Best tide: Often better on mid to higher tide, depending on the sand and swell direction.

Skill level

• Generally considered intermediate, but it can be friendly enough for advancing beginners on smaller days.
• When it gets bigger, the wave can become fast and punchier, demanding better positioning and takeoff timing.

Hazards and conditions

• Reef/rocky bottom in places, so be mindful during low tide.
• Can have strong currents and occasional crowded sessions when conditions are good.
• Water is typically cool, so a wetsuit is usually needed.
