Leucadia is a mellow North County San Diego surf zone in Encinitas, known for a string of mostly beachbreaks with a laid-back, local feel. It’s not a single named “spot” as much as a stretch of coastline where conditions vary a lot from one sandbar to the next.

What it’s like

• Wave type: Mostly beachbreak, with occasional sandbar peaks and a few reef influences nearby depending on the exact access point.
• Best swell: Handles NW to W swells best, with some spots picking up S/SSW swell in summer.
• Wind: Usually best with light offshore to calm morning winds; afternoon onshores are common in San Diego.
• Tide: Can be tide-sensitive—some peaks work better on mid tide, while others need lower tide to show shape.

Surf quality

• When the sandbars line up, Leucadia can offer fun, peaky beachbreak waves that are good for shortboards, funboards, and sometimes longboards on smaller days.
