Rhossili

Rhossili (on the Gower Peninsula, South Wales) is one of the UK’s most iconic surf spots, set along a huge open bay with a dramatic clifftop backdrop and a very exposed Atlantic fetch. The beach faces southwest, so it catches plenty of swell and can produce powerful, clean waves when conditions line up.

What it’s like

• Wave type: Mainly a beach break with shifting banks
• Best swell: West to southwest swells usually work best
• Wind: Easterly/northeasterly offshore winds often make it cleaner
• Tide: Can surf across a range of tides, but the best spot changes with sand movement and tide level
• Power: Can handle size well; bigger swells can make it heavy and fast

Experience level

Rhossili can suit intermediate to advanced surfers, especially when the surf is solid. On smaller, cleaner days it can be more forgiving, but the open exposure and strong currents mean beginners should be cautious.

• Exposed conditions with weather changing quickly
• Crowds on good days, especially in summer or during a good swell window

Vibe

It’s a beautiful, wild location rather than a sheltered easy-going beach. The scenery is a big part of the draw—long sandy beach, sweeping bay, cliffs, and the famous view toward Worm’s Head.
