Tywyn

Tywyn is a beachbreak on the west coast of Wales, facing the Irish Sea, and is one of the more accessible surf spots in North Wales / the NW England surf region. It’s a long sandy beach with a generally forgiving setup, making it a good option for beginners and intermediates when conditions line up.

What it’s like

• Wave type: Mostly beachbreak
• Best swell: Works best with northwest to west swell
• Wind: Usually prefers easterly/offshore winds
• Bottom: Sand, so the shape can change often
• Skill level: Best for beginners to intermediates, though it can get punchier on bigger swells

Conditions

Tywyn often needs a decent swell to really come alive, but when it does, it can offer clean, rideable peaks across the beach. Because it’s sandy, the break can be fairly forgiving compared with rocky reef spots, but it can also be inconsistent and affected by shifting sandbanks.
