Cayton Bay

Cayton Bay is a classic North Sea beach break on the Yorkshire coast, just south of Scarborough. It’s known for being one of the more consistent surf spots in East England, especially when a good northerly or easterly swell lines up with offshore west or southwest winds.

What it’s like

• Wave quality: Can be fun and punchy, but often fickle and weather-dependent
• Best conditions: Mid to larger swells from the NE/E/SE, with W/SW winds for cleaner faces

Cayton Bay can produce hollow sections and fairly powerful peaks compared with some other East Coast spots. On a good day it can offer fast, rippable waves, but it can also close out if the swell gets too big or the sandbars aren’t lined up well.
