Jersey - La mare

Jersey – La Mare is a surf spot on the north coast of Jersey in the Channel Islands, exposed to Atlantic swell and known for its powerful, often less-crowded waves.

What it’s like

• Type: Rock/breakwater-adjacent coastal reef/point-style wave in places, with a faster, more powerful surf than many beachbreaks.
• Wave quality: Can produce clean, punchy waves when swell direction and wind line up.
• Consistency: Best on solid Atlantic groundswell; smaller swells may not make much of an impact.
• Crowds: Usually quieter than mainland UK spots, but conditions can draw local surfers.

Best conditions

• Swell: W/NW/N swell generally works best depending on exact takeoff zone and tide.
• Wind: E/SE offshore or light variable winds are ideal.
• Tide: Often tide-sensitive; mid-to-low tide may work best, but it depends on the section and swell size.

Hazards / things to know

• Reef/rocks: Expect a rocky bottom and shallow sections, so be careful on low tide.
• Powerful surf: Can be strong and unforgiving, especially in larger swells.
