Chingshuei (清水), Taiwan is a surf spot on Taiwan’s central-west coast, known more as a mellow, relatively accessible beachbreak than a world-class heavy wave. It sits near Taichung and is one of the better-known spots for surfers in the central part of the island.

What it’s like

Wave type: Mostly beachbreak
Wave quality: Can be fun and playful, but usually inconsistent compared with Taiwan’s east coast
Best for: Beginners to intermediate surfers on smaller, clean days
Conditions: Works best with the right combination of swell, wind, and tide; can get messy when winds are onshore

Surfing character

Chingshuei tends to offer shorter, softer waves rather than long, powerful point-style rides. On a good day it can provide clean peelers suitable for practice, but it’s generally not the first place people go if they’re chasing the most reliable surf in Taiwan.

Crowds: Can attract local surfers when conditions are good
Access: Fairly easy to reach from Taichung and nearby areas
Environment: Being on the west coast, it can be affected by strong tides, shifting sandbars, and variable conditions

Best season

Taiwan’s surf generally improves during typhoon season and winter swell periods, though the west coast spots are often more condition-dependent than the east coast.
