Madiha

Madiha is a relaxed surf spot on Sri Lanka’s south coast, just east of Matara and close to other well-known breaks like Mirissa and Kabalana. It’s known for its mellow, less-crowded atmosphere compared with some of the more famous surf towns, making it a favorite for surfers who want a calmer vibe.

Surf conditions

• Wave type: Mostly reef break, with a fun, peeling right-hander as the main draw.
• Best for: Beginners to intermediate surfers on smaller days, and more confident surfers when it gets bigger.
• Wave quality: Can offer long, clean rides when the swell and wind line up.
• Crowds: Generally lighter than nearby hotspots, though it can still get busy when conditions are good.
• Consistency: Works best during the south coast surf season, especially when southwest swells hit.

Atmosphere

Madiha has a laid-back, local feel with a few guesthouses, cafés, and surf stays nearby. It’s a good place to base yourself if you want to surf, eat well, and avoid the more tourist-heavy beach towns.
