Surf description

De Kelders is known as a powerful reef/point-style break with a wild, exposed feel. It tends to pick up plenty of South Atlantic swell, especially in the winter months, and can offer longer, well-shaped rides when the conditions line up. The waves are often faster and more powerful than mellow beach breaks, so it’s generally better for intermediate to advanced surfers.

• Wave type: Mostly reef/rocky bottom with point-style lines in the right swell
• Best swell: South to southwest swell
• Best wind: Usually light offshore easterly/northeasterly winds
• Best tide: Often works best around mid to lower tide, depending on the exact peak
• Crowd: Usually less crowded than major Cape Town spots, but can still draw locals when it’s on
