Danger Point

Danger Point is a rugged, exposed surf spot on South Africa’s Garden Route / southern Cape coast, known more for its powerful, serious waves than for easy, user-friendly conditions. It sits in a wild-looking stretch of coastline where rocky headlands, reefs, and open-ocean swell combine to create a wave that can be fast, heavy, and hollow when the conditions line up.

What it’s like

• Wave type: Mostly a reef/point-style setup depending on the exact bank and swell direction.
• Wave quality: Can be very good, with long walls and punchy sections, but it’s highly conditions-dependent.
• Power level: Strong and potentially dangerous; best suited to experienced surfers.
• Crowd factor: Usually less crowded than major town breaks, but the remoteness and challenge keep the vibe serious.
• Scenery: Dramatic coastline, cliffs/rocky shoreline, and a classic wild South African ocean feel.

Best conditions

• Typically wants a solid south or southwest swell.
• Offshore or light east/northeast winds are usually best, depending on the exact orientation.
• Works best on mid to larger swell, when the wave has enough energy to wrap and break cleanly.
