Sandbaai is a small, scenic South African surf break along the Garden Route. It’s typically a beachbreak/reef-fringed coastal setup depending on the exact section of coast, with waves that can be fun and punchy when conditions line up.

Wave type

• Mostly beachbreak-style waves
• Can get peaky, shifting takeoff zones
• Best on the right swell and sand setup

Best swell

• Responds well to south and southwest swells
• Smaller swells can still produce rideable waves if the sandbanks are good
• Bigger swells can make it powerful and harder to surf
