Police Bay

Police Bay, Mahé, Seychelles is one of the island’s most exposed and powerful surf breaks, located on the remote southern tip of Mahé. It’s a scenic, often windswept bay with a wild feel, backed by lush hills and fringing reef.

Surf character

• Wave type: Mostly a reef/point-style setup with plenty of open ocean exposure
• Best for: Intermediate to advanced surfers, depending on swell size and shape
• Power: Can get fast, hollow, and very strong on the right swell
• Consistency: Not a daily wave—needs the right south or southeast swell to really turn on

Conditions

• Best swell: Southern hemisphere swell directions, especially from the south/southeast
• Wind: Light offshore or cross-offshore winds are best; strong winds can make it choppy quickly
• Tide: Can vary by section, but tide changes may significantly affect the reef and wave quality

Hazards

• Reef: Sharp coral/reef bottom, so board control is important
• Current: Can be strong due to the bay’s exposure
• Entry/exit: Can be awkward depending on conditions, so take care
• Remoteness: Limited facilities nearby, so go prepared

Crowd and vibe

Police Bay is generally more isolated than many popular surf areas, so it often has a quiet, uncrowded feel. The setting is beautiful and a bit raw, which adds to the appeal.
