Chatarras (Puerto Rico) is a lesser-known surf spot on the west/northwest coast of Puerto Rico, best suited for surfers who are comfortable with powerful reef waves and local conditions. It’s not usually the first place beginners should go, but when the swell lines up it can offer clean, fun, and punchy waves.

Chatarras tends to have a more local, low-key feel compared with Puerto Rico’s more famous surf destinations like Rincón. The spot can deliver fast, sectiony waves that reward good positioning and quick takeoffs.

Best time to surf

Puerto Rico’s prime surf season is generally late fall through winter, when north swells are most consistent. Hurricane season can also bring good waves, but conditions are more unpredictable.
