São Jacinto is a long, open Atlantic beach break on the north side of the Aveiro lagoon, exposed to the full force of Atlantic swell. It’s a classic Portuguese beach setup with plenty of sand, room to spread out, and waves that can be very good when the sandbanks line up.

What it’s like - Wave type: Beach break - Bottom: Sand - Style: Powerful, often fast, and can be punchy on the right sandbanks - Crowds: Usually more relaxed than major surf hubs, though quality days can still draw people

Best conditions - Swell: Works best with consistent W to NW Atlantic swell - Wind: Offshore or light E/NE winds are ideal - Tide: Can vary a lot depending on sandbars; mid tide is often a good starting point - Best season: Autumn and winter for stronger, more reliable surf; summer can still offer smaller, cleaner days

Skill level - Can suit intermediate to advanced surfers, especially when it’s bigger or more hollow. - On smaller, softer days it can be surfable for beginners, but shifting sandbanks and currents mean conditions can change quickly.

Hazards - Strong currents and rips can be present. - Sandbars move often, so the break can change from one week to the next. - Bigger swell can make it powerful and closing out in places.
