Furadouro

Furadouro, Portugal (North Beira) is a well-known beachbreak on Portugal’s central/northern Atlantic coast, just south of Porto and near Ovar. It’s a classic exposed beach spot that picks up plenty of Atlantic swell, so it can be very consistent—especially in autumn, winter, and early spring.

What it’s like

• Wave type: Mostly sand-bottom beachbreak
• Wave quality: Can be very fun and punchy when conditions line up, with shifting peaks along the beach
• Best for: Beginner to intermediate surfers on smaller, cleaner days; more advanced surfers when it gets bigger and more powerful
• Swell exposure: Good exposure to NW and W swells
• Wind: Likes offshore easterly or southeast winds; onshore westerlies can make it messy quickly
