Baleal

Baleal, Portugal (Central Peniche) is one of the best-known surf zones on Portugal’s west coast, just north of Peniche. It’s a compact, scenic peninsula/island area with several exposed beach and reef breaks that work with a wide range of swell directions, making it a very reliable surf destination.

What it’s like

• Wave quality: Consistent Atlantic surf with many different peaks, from mellow learner-friendly waves to punchier, more powerful sections when the swell gets bigger.
• Vibe: Busy, surf-focused, and friendly. Baleal has a strong surf-town atmosphere with lots of surf schools, camps, cafés, and board rentals.
• Scenery: Wide sandy beaches, cliffs, and open ocean views. It’s especially beautiful at sunrise and sunset.
