Limipicos

Limipicos is a lesser-known surf spot in the Central Ericeira area of Portugal, part of the well-known Atlantic coastline near the Ericeira surf reserve. It’s generally a reef/rocky reef break rather than a sandy beach break, which means the wave quality can be quite good when conditions align, but it also tends to be more technical and less forgiving.

What it’s like

• Wave type: Predominantly a right-hand reef break, with some sections that can work both ways depending on the swell direction.
• Best conditions: Clean NW to WNW swell with offshore easterly or northeasterly winds is typically ideal for this part of the coast.
• Tide sensitivity: Like many reef spots around Ericeira, it can be very tide-dependent—often working best around mid tide.
• Wave quality: Can offer fast, punchy, and hollow surf when the sand/swell/reef combination lines up, but it may also get sectiony or close out if the swell is too big or poorly aligned.

Crowd and vibe

• Usually less crowded than the most famous Ericeira breaks, but it can still attract local surfers when it’s good.
• The atmosphere is typically more local and serious, since reef breaks often reward positioning and experience.

Skill level

• Better suited to intermediate to advanced surfers.
• The rocky bottom and potentially shallow takeoff zones make it less beginner-friendly.

Hazards

• Rocks and reef exposure at lower tides.
• Potential for strong currents and a tricky paddle-out depending on swell size.
• It’s worth checking the spot carefully before surfing, especially if you’re unfamiliar with the area.
