Coxos

Coxos is one of the most famous waves in Portugal and a true reference point in the Ericeira surf zone. Located in Central Ericeira, it’s a powerful, world-class right-hand reef break known for its long, hollow, highly predictable waves and its reputation as a serious performance spot.

What it’s like

• Wave type: Fast, heavy, high-performance right-hand point/reef wave
• Consistency: Very reliable, especially with the right swell direction and tide
• Best for: Experienced surfers, especially those comfortable in powerful reef breaks
• Character: Can be long, clean, and barreling, but also unforgiving when conditions are big or crowded

Coxos works best with: - W/NW swells that wrap into the bay - E/SE winds offshore - Mid to higher tide often favored, though it depends on size and sand/reef exposure - Clean, organized surf, ideally with good period and manageable size
