Vale do Lobo

Vale do Lobo is a scenic surf area on the Algarve coast of Portugal, near Loulé/Faro. It’s better known as a resort area than a hardcore surf destination, but it can offer fun sessions when the swell lines up.

What to expect

Vale do Lobo often has smaller, softer waves, making it a good place to practice if the conditions are manageable. On bigger swells, it can become more powerful, but like many sandy beaches it can change quickly with tides and shifting sandbars.

• Autumn and winter: More reliable swell and generally the best surf season in the Algarve
• Spring: Can still be good with less crowding
• Summer: Usually smaller and less consistent, but more beginner-friendly
