Trolley’s is a little-known, exposed reef/point-style break on the northeast coast of New Zealand’s South Island. It’s a quieter spot that can offer fun, punchy waves when a solid northeast swell lines up, with the best conditions usually coming from offshore westerly or southwesterly winds. The wave tends to break over a reefy bottom, so it can be fast, shallow, and fairly powerful, making it better suited to confident surfers who are comfortable with reef breaks.

Because it’s not a heavily developed surf destination, Trolley’s often has a remote, uncrowded feel, and conditions can vary a lot depending on tide, swell angle, and wind. On a good day it can produce clean, surfable walls; on a bigger swell it may become heavy and hollow. Always check local knowledge and conditions before paddling out.
