Blackhead

Blackhead, New Zealand (South Island, Far South) is a remote surf location in the far south of New Zealand’s South Island, exposed to the Southern Ocean and often influenced by powerful swells and changing weather. It’s generally considered a less-developed, more rugged surf destination rather than a crowded mainstream beachbreak.

• Swell exposure: Picks up south and southwest swells very well
• Conditions: Can be powerful, cold, and weather-sensitive, with winds playing a big role in quality

• Hazards: Strong currents, shifting sandbars/reefs, and cold-water exposure
