Mikotai is a West Coast Taranaki beachbreak exposed to the powerful swells rolling in off the Tasman Sea. It’s typically best on medium to large southwest/west swells and usually performs well with light offshore easterly winds common on Taranaki’s coast. The waves can be fast, punchy, and heavy, with shifting sandbars that can produce fun peaks and occasional barrels when conditions line up.

Because it’s a more exposed West Coast break, Mikotai can be powerful and less forgiving, making it better suited to surfers comfortable in stronger surf and changing conditions. Like many Taranaki spots, it can offer good consistency when the swell is running, but quality depends a lot on sand movement, tide, and wind.
