Break water

Breakwater, Taranaki, North Island, New Zealand is a solid west coast reef/point-style surf spot known for powerful waves and exposed conditions. It sits in one of New Zealand’s most reliable surf regions, with frequent swell and plenty of energy coming in from the Tasman Sea.

What to expect

• Can also get bumpy and messy when wind turns offshore/sideways or swell gets too large
• Often best on a mid to high tide, though this depends on the exact reef setup

• Hazards: rocks, strong currents, heavy surf, and shallow sections
