Ning Nong

Ning Nong is a lesser-known surf break on New Zealand’s North Island southeast coast, offering a more secluded, uncrowded alternative to the region’s better-known points and beach breaks. It’s typically exposed to swell from the south and east, with conditions changing quickly depending on wind direction and tide. When it lines up, the spot can produce clean, fun waves with a raw, coastal feel typical of this part of NZ.

The break is best suited to surfers comfortable with variable conditions, as local wind, swell angle, and shifting sand or reef setup can strongly affect quality. Because it’s not a widely publicized destination, it tends to see fewer surfers, adding to its quiet, remote character.
