Henderson Beach

Henderson Beach is a surf spot on New Zealand’s North Island (NI), northwest coast. It’s generally known as a coastal beach break exposed to the Tasman Sea, so it can pick up a decent amount of swell when conditions line up.

• Best swell: Usually does best with westerly to northwesterly swell energy
• Wind: Often wants light easterly or offshore winds for cleaner shape
• Bottom: Sandy, so the sandbars can shift and change the peaks
• Consistency: Can be variable, depending on sand movement and coastal conditions

• Likely best when there’s a solid groundswell without too much local wind
• Because it’s a sand-bottom break, the waves may be fast and hollow at times, but also softer and more mellow on smaller days
