Waiheke Is

Waiheke Island, in New Zealand’s North Island on the Hauraki Gulf, is better known for its beaches, vineyards, and coastal scenery than for big, consistent surf. If you’re looking at the NE coast of Waiheke, the surf is generally small to moderate, and conditions can be highly wind- and swell-dependent.

• Wave quality: Mostly beachie, smaller wind-driven waves, with occasional fun peaks when a clean NE or E swell lines up.
• Best conditions: Light winds, especially offshore or at least not onshore. Early mornings are often best before sea breezes pick up.
