Surf characteristics

• Wave type: Predominantly a beach break
• Wave quality: Can be very good when a swell lines up cleanly, but conditions are highly sand-dependent and can change often
• Wave direction: Works best on NE to NNE swells, with some energy from ENE through E depending on the sandbanks
• Wind: Best with westerly or southwesterly offshore winds; onshore easterlies can quickly make it messy
• Tide: Usually mid tide is the safest bet, though this can vary with the sandbars

• Shifting banks: Sandbars change regularly, creating unpredictable channels and peaks
• Rocky areas/headlands: Some sections around the park and nearby coastline can have rocks or reef influence

Best for

• Intermediate surfers and above who can handle changing beach-break conditions and occasional punchy surf
• Surfers looking for a more natural, less urban setting
