Browns Bay Bar

Browns Bay Bar is a surfable sandbar break on the north-east coast of New Zealand’s North Island, in the Browns Bay area of Auckland’s North Shore. It’s a beachbreak/bar setup exposed to Northerly and easterly swell, with waves often shaped by local sand movement and tide.

• Best for: Beginner to intermediate surfers on smaller days; more powerful and sectiony when swell fills in
• Wave quality: Can be fun and hollow at times, but generally more playful than highly consistent

• Best swell: East to north-east swell
• Best wind: Light westerly or offshore conditions
• Tide: Often works best around mid tide, though sand movement can change this
• Crowds: Can get busy, especially in good conditions and during summer
