Targha

Targha is a scenic surf spot on Morocco’s Mediterranean coast, near the Rif Mountains and not far from the Spanish enclave of Ceuta. It’s a relatively low-key, less crowded location compared with Morocco’s better-known Atlantic breaks.

Wave character

• Type: Mostly beachbreak with shifting sandbanks, and at times some nearby rocky features depending on the exact area and swell direction.
• Best swell: Northern or northwest Mediterranean swells are generally the most productive.
• Wave quality: Can be fun and playful when conditions line up, but it’s usually more inconsistent than Atlantic Morocco.
• Power: Typically smaller and less powerful than Morocco’s Atlantic surf, though it can still deliver solid, surfable waves in the right season.

Conditions

• Wind: Offshore or light winds are best; Mediterranean winds can change quickly.
• Crowds: Usually quiet, with a local and relaxed atmosphere.
• Water temperature: Mild to cool depending on the season; a spring suit is often enough in warmer months, but a wetsuit may be needed in winter.

Who it suits

• Beginners: Good on smaller days if the sandbanks are gentle.
• Intermediate surfers: Best suited for surfers looking for an uncrowded, mellow session.
• Advanced surfers: May find it less consistent, but can still enjoy it when a good swell arrives.

Atmosphere

Targha has a remote, peaceful feel, with rugged Mediterranean scenery, cliffs, and a laid-back coastal vibe. It’s more of a “check the conditions and score if it’s on” kind of spot than a guaranteed daily surf destination.
