Rucos

Rucos is a beach break surf spot on the Pacific coast of Mexico, in the Sinaloa–Nayarit region. It’s a fairly exposed, sand-bottom wave that can produce fun, punchy surf when the sandbars line up, especially during the swell season.

• Best for: Intermediate to advanced surfers, depending on conditions
• Character: Can be fast, hollow, and powerful when the swell is up; mellower on smaller days

• Best swell: South to southwest swells are often the most reliable

Crowd and vibe

Rucos is generally less famous than major destination breaks, so it can feel a bit more laid-back. That said, good sandbar beach breaks anywhere in Mexico can attract local surfers when conditions turn on.
