Scorpion Bay

Scorpion Bay, in Baja California Sur, Mexico, is one of the most famous longboard surf destinations in the world. It sits on the Pacific side of the Baja peninsula, near the small coastal town of San Juanico, and is known for its remote feel, desert scenery, and long, peeling point breaks.

What it’s like

• Wave style: Mostly point breaks with long, mellow rides.
• Best for: Longboarders, intermediate surfers, and anyone chasing classic, wrapping point waves.
• Wave quality: On a good swell, the waves can be incredibly long and clean, often peeling for hundreds of meters.
• Crowds: Much lighter than many famous surf spots, though it can draw a dedicated surf crowd during prime conditions.

Conditions

• Swell exposure: Works best with NW swell.
• Wind: Offshore winds are common, especially in the morning, helping keep the waves clean.
• Tide: Different points work better at different tides, so tide can make a big difference.
• Season: Best surf is often from late fall through spring, though it can produce surf outside that window too.
