Cape Toi (Toi Misaki), Kyushu, Japan is a scenic, remote surf spot on the southeastern tip of Kyushu in Miyazaki Prefecture. It sits along a rugged stretch of coastline exposed to Pacific swells, with a wild, natural setting and far fewer crowds than Japan’s more famous surf areas.

Surf characteristics

Wave type: Mostly reef and beach-break combinations, depending on the exact section of coastline.
Best swell: Works best on southerly to easterly Pacific swells, especially during typhoon season.
Wind: Cleanest with offshore or light west/northwest winds.
Consistency: Can be very good when a swell lines up, but it’s not always on; conditions are more seasonal and swell-dependent.
Skill level: Generally better suited to intermediate to advanced surfers, especially because of reefy sections, currents, and changing conditions.

Environment and vibe

Scenery: Dramatic cliffs, open ocean views, and a more untouched feel than many Japanese surf destinations.
