Lances Left is one of the standout waves in the Mentawai Islands, Indonesia—a powerful, fast, world-class left-hand reef break known for its length, shape, and quality.

• Shape: Starts with a steep takeoff, then runs down a lined-up wall with sections that can open for deep barrels and sharp turns

Conditions

• Works best with a consistent southwest swell
• Prefers light offshore winds for clean, groomed faces
• Most surfable on mid to larger swells, though size can make it very heavy and challenging
• Best with the right tide; too shallow and it can get extremely ledgy and shallow
