Nusa Dua is one of Bali’s most famous surf zones, known for clean, powerful reef breaks and a more polished, resort-side setting than many other Bali surf areas.

What the waves are like

Nusa Dua can produce long, peeling rights and lefts, with some sections that get steep and hollow. When the swell is right, it can deliver powerful, high-quality waves that are ideal for experienced surfers looking for performance reef surfing. Some spots in the area can be very fast and heavy, especially at larger sizes.

Conditions and access

• The area sits on the southeast coast of Bali, exposed to open-ocean swell.
• Reefs are sharp and shallow, so reef booties are sometimes useful.
• Access is generally easier than many remote breaks, but conditions can get crowded when the surf is good.
• Because it’s near luxury resorts, the setting feels more developed and relaxed than Bali’s more rugged surf areas.

Best time to surf

• Dry season (roughly April to October): Usually the best period, with more consistent swell and favorable offshore winds.
• Wet season: Still can work, but conditions are less consistent and winds are often less ideal.

Things to keep in mind

• Sharp reef and strong currents mean it’s best suited to surfers with reef-break experience.
• Crowds can be an issue on good days.
• Some peaks can be intimidating at bigger sizes.
