Kalamitsi, Greece (Aegean Sea) is a scenic surf spot on the Sithonia peninsula in Chalkidiki, northern Greece. It’s more of a small, sheltered bay/beach break than a heavy surf destination, but it can pick up clean wind-driven waves when the Aegean gets active.

Quick description

Setting: A turquoise bay with clear water, sandy shoreline, and a relaxed seaside village atmosphere.
Wave type: Mostly small to moderate wind swell and chop; best when the wind and swell align.
Best for: Beginners, longboarders, SUP surfers, and wind sports more than advanced shortboard surfing.
Conditions: Can be quite variable—some days it’s flat and glassy, other days it gets bumpy and blown out depending on the wind.
Seabed: Generally sand, which makes it friendlier and safer than rocky spots.
Crowd: Usually low to moderate, especially compared with more famous Mediterranean surf areas.

Best time to surf

Autumn and winter usually bring the best chance of swells.
Spring can also be decent.
Summer is often smaller and more suitable for paddling, swimming, and lighter conditions.

Why go there

Kalamitsi is less about consistent big surf and more about beautiful scenery, warm water, and easy-going sessions when the weather systems in the Aegean send waves into the bay.
