Damp surf spot overview

• Location: Baltic Sea coast, northern Germany
• Wave type: Small to moderate wind-generated waves
• Best conditions: Strong onshore or cross-shore winds, especially during autumn and winter storm periods
• Skill level: Better for beginners to intermediate surfers when conditions are manageable; can get more challenging in bigger Baltic swells and strong winds
• Water temperature: Cold much of the year, so a thick wetsuit is usually needed
• Consistency: Weather-dependent rather than reliably surfable every day
• Other uses: Popular for windsurfing, kitesurfing, and SUP when surf isn’t ideal

What it’s like

Damp is not a classic long-period ocean swell surf destination. Instead, it’s more of a regional Baltic surf break where rideable waves depend heavily on wind direction, fetch, and storm activity. Sessions can be fun when conditions line up, but they’re usually short and changeable.
