Point Venus

Point Venus, Tahiti (French Polynesia) is a scenic surf and shorebreak spot on the northern tip of Tahiti, near Papeete. It’s named after the historic Point Venus headland and is best known for its beautiful black-sand beach, lighthouse, and relaxed local atmosphere.

Surf characteristics

• Type: Mostly beachbreak and near-shore reef influence
• Wave quality: Can offer fun, punchy waves when swell and wind line up, but it’s not as famous or consistent as Tahiti’s more world-class reef passes
• Best conditions: Generally works best with the right north or northwest swell and light winds
• Skill level: Often more suitable for intermediate surfers, though conditions can get powerful and messy depending on swell size and sand movement

What to expect

• Scenic setting: Tropical backdrop, clear water, volcanic coastline, and views across Matavai Bay
• Crowds: Usually less intense than major reef breaks, but local surfers may still be present when it’s breaking well
• Hazards: Variable sandbars, shallow sections, rocks/reef in places, and strong currents on larger days

Vibe

Point Venus is more of a relaxed, accessible surf location than an elite destination wave. It’s a good place to soak in the Tahitian coastline and catch a session if the conditions are right.
